To begin, we think sharing the vinyl information accumulated over 25 years in the upholstery trade is the best way of giving our customers the information they need when choosing vinyl upholstery.
Because of price there is a lot of fake, faux or imitation products in the market.
As a result all value is lost! Why should a set of dining chairs only last a couple of years then end up in landfill?
Thousands of dollars for furniture with a one year warranty? Why is this both legal or morally accepted as ok?
As a Consequence Stylefurn supplies a collection of internationally certified commercial vinyl fabrics.
Colourfastness, UV stabilisation and among others Durability are our foremost concern!
The Stylefurn alternative is all about long term value for the client and our planet.
It started with objects getting covered in animal hide or some kind of woven cloth.
Then developed into a cloth covered in plastic, after that it became known as vinyl.
Consequently, Vinyl has become known as a reliable man made substitute for leather for nearly 100 years.
As a result there has been a massive growth of low grade copies or cheap fakes!
These inferior copies have left many consumers unsure as to why their furniture is only lasting a short period before deteriorating into a ragged mess.
Adding to the confusion common Upholstery Vinyl has many names, however they all refer to the same thing.
Some of these include, Faux Leather, Synthetic Leather, Fake Leather, PU Leather, Imitation Leather, Bi-cast leather and probably many more.
Here at Stylefurn we only supply a quality selection of vinyl upholstery materials.
The First Vinyl
DuPont were the first company to market a product called Fabrikoid.
Produced by coating a cotton or flax backing cloth with nitrocellulose.
Fabrikoid was widely used in upholstery, luggage, as well as book bindings during the early 20th century.
As a result by the 1920s, Fabrikoid became the preferred material for automobile convertible tops and seat covers.
By the 1940s, more durable vinyl-coated fabrics overtook the market.
True Vinyl- Polyvinyl Chloride
PVC’s relative non-flammability, insulation properties, resistance to humidity as well as various chemicals made it extremely durable and practical for use in the consumer market.
A noteworthy pioneer, the company Uniroyal first began making Naugahyde, a faux leather that became the emblem of the 1950s.
Designers then used it, even chairs in the United Nations building New York had it, it was everywhere.
By the mid 1960s Uniroyal, the manufactures of Naugahyde had numerous look alike competitors.
In the mean time, imitators were challenging one of the original manufacturers.
As mentioned earlier Vinyl production has many low cost imitations.
As a result these low grade imitations get dirty easier, are harder to clean and break down prematurely.
